Bill Watson: Swing Studies Stage 1 (Tenor Sax)
Swing Studies Stage 1 for Tenor Saxophone is a collection of 10 original duets with rhythm section backings. These are excellent studies for developing swing phrasing and because they're duets, you can enjoy the challenge of playing them along with another person.

Each duet is strong material for sight-reading and the accompanying CD (which features both a demo and play along track) will help you to learn correct phrasing and expression in a jazz style. The pieces are also excellent for beginning improvisers, because they are written in easy keys with clearly written chord symbols. The book and CD set also includes a handy reference page of jazz articulations, explaining what the various performance marks are and how they should be played.

Comments from people who have bought books from this series:
I found them all good fun to play, the melodies are of a "catchy" nature which I am sure would motivate the students.
These studies are an excellent introduction to jazz/big band playing involving appropriate reading, phrasing and improvisation practise for students of all ages"
The accompanying C.D. not only demonstrates the style well, but allows the student to play along with a good rhythm section
It is good to see the 30 studies graded across such a wide band of abilities, as it is always difficult to get worthwhile jazz and swing teaching material for early grade levels
