Ultimate Funk Grooves for Tenor Sax and Bb Instruments is a dynamic rhythm patterns book for learning some of the funkiest licks. This book contains 92 riffs that showcase the different ways in which the soloist can get some Funk into their playing. The audio CD that comes with the book contains 31 different grooves that accompany each of the riffs, influenced by James Brown, The Commodores, Stevie Wonder, The Meters, The Crusaders, Brecker Brothers, Earth, Wind and Fire, The Average White Band, Junior Walker and others. There's a really hip discography covering James Brown through Maceo Parker in 2005 and over 25 other artists as well.

Listen to a sample from the CD:

Each lick is played twice, first time a demo of the lick by the tenor saxophone, the second time by the entire rhythm section without the saxophone. The difficulty of the licks is wide, from Grade 3 (eg Groove#2 which you hear first on the audio clip above) through to licks for the advanced player (eg altissimo notes). There's some good preface instruction provided on the notation, alternative fingerings and further practice.

Bonus materials with additional grooves and 17 extra riffs that were not able to include in the book that are available for free download in .MP3 and PDF file formats from
